The European Publishers Award for Photography was established in 1994 and celebrates its 19th year in 2012. Previous winners have included Bruce Gilden, Simon Norfolk, Jeff Mermelstein, Paolo Pellegrin, Jacob Aue Sobol, Ambroise Tézenas, Klavdij Sluban, Christophe Agou and David Monteleone.

Founded in 1994, the European Publishers Award for Photography is a major initiative to encourage the publication of contemporary photography.  Open to photographers world-wide, the competition is a unique collaboration between six European Publishers – Actes Sud (France), Blume (Spain), Apeiron (Greece), Dewi Lewis Publishing (Great Britain), Kehrer Verlag (Germany) Peliti Associati (Italy) and Blume (Spain).  The 2012 Jury will be held in the UK and Dewi lewis Publishing will be Project Leader.

The competition requires the submission of a substantial, completed and unpublished photographic book project. The winning project is then published in book form simultaneously by each of the publishers in their own country resulting in one of the most extensive cultural collaborations currently existing in Europe.”

Deadline May 3rd: Center for Fine Art Photography “Portfolio Showcase Volume 5”

Members: $65 for the first portfolio (12 images)
Non-Members: $85 for the first portfolio (12 images)

There is no theme for this exhibition. The images will be evaluated as a cohesive body of work, rather than individual images. Fifteen photographers will be chosen to publish their twelve-image portfolios in the Center’s Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5 book and online exhibition. One photographer will be chosen to display their portfolio in the Center’s South Gallery. The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate.

Juror
Juror Chris Pichler is founder and publisher of Nazraeli Press. Based in Portland, Oregon, Nazraeli Press publishes books specializing in contemporary photography.

Exhibition and Awards
With selection for this exhibition, featured artist’s work will be seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants, and other advocates of fine art photography. Each participant will be included in the Center’s Online Gallery exhibition as well as published in the Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5 Book. Select artists also will receive a blog feature at the Center’s blog PERSPECTIVES.

Juror’s Selection: The juror will select one portfolio to be the first presented in the book and will select an image from the portfolio to be the book cover.

Solo Exhibition Award: One photographer will be chosen to display their portfolio in the Center’s South Gallery.

Each participating artist will receive a complementary book.
