Competition Prizes

  1. The $15,000 Arnold Newman Prize for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture
The Arnold Newman Prize was established by the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation in 2009 to recognize and reward excellence in new directions in photographic portraiture. The annual prize winner receives an award of $15,000 and is recognized in ceremonies in New York and at the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine. The prize is funded by the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation with support from Maine Media Workshops, the American Society of Media Photographers, and PDN.
The prize winner is determined through a two-step process; the first being the submission of work to the PDN Photo Annual competition. Finalists are chosen from the initial submissions and are invited to submit a portfolio of prints and a proposal for a new photographic project. The award money will provide financial support to the winner to complete the photographic project.
  2. The Marty Forscher Fellowship Fund $4,000 Professional and $2,000 Student Awards
The Marty Forscher Fellowship Fund is sponsored by Parsons The New School for Design and PDN. This award recognizes students and emerging professionals who have outstanding achievements in humanistic photography.

The Sony Emerging Talent Award will award an exceptional up-and-coming photographer with a $2,500 cash prize. This year, Sony, in partnership with PHaT Photo and PDN, will offer the winner the opportunity to create a photo essay illustrating the theme “Rediscover Your City” with Sony’s PlayMemories apps, which will be showcased at the PDN Photo Annual Party and featured in a spread in PDN and PHaT Photo.
  4. The $3,000 PDN Publisher’s Choice Award
