July 1st, Portland: Opening Reception for Jody Ake at Newspace Center for Photography

© 2011 Jody Ake

Newspace Center for Photography
In the Gallery: Jody Ake

Opening Reception: Friday, July 1, 2011, 6:00-9:00 pm
The exhibition will be up until July 31st

Jody Ake believes the portrait discloses more about the subject than what is found on the surface. The subject, either willingly or subconsciously, shows us more then they intends. The camera can see more than the naked eye, moving past our persona and catching a glimpse of who we really are.

Jody Ake creates portraits and
landscape images using the wet collodion process. Ake is one of a handful of contemporary artists who
have revived this photographic method, hand-mixing all of the necessary chemicals for each and every exposure.”
