“Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation are pleased to announce the 2015 edition of The Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards, celebrating the book’s contribution to the evolving narrative of photography.

The First PhotoBook Prize of $10,000 will be awarded to the photographer(s)/artist(s) whose first photobook is judged to be best of the year. The PhotoBook of the Year Prize will be awarded to the photographer(s)/artist(s), and publisher responsible, for the photobook judged to be the best of the year.

The Photography Catalogue of the Year Prize will be awarded to the publication, publisher, and/or organizing institution(s) responsible for the exhibition catalogue or museum publication judged to be the best of the year.

Thirty-five shortlisted entries in total will be exhibited and the award winners will be announced at Paris Photo, November 12-15, 2015.

Entry Fees

  • First PhotoBook early bird discount: $30 $20 per book.
  • PhotoBook of the Year early bird discount: $60 $50 for first entry from a given publisher, $30 $25 for each subsequent entry from the same publisher.
  • Photography Catalogue of the Year early bird discount: $60 $50 for first entry from a given publisher, $30 $25 for each subsequent entry from the same publisher.”

“Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation are pleased to announce the 2014 edition of The Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards, celebrating the book’s contribution to the evolving narrative of photography. We are excited to reveal the introduction of a third award category, Photography Catalogue of the Year, which joins the PhotoBook of the Year and First PhotoBook categories.

Judging
The awards will be judged in two stages. An initial jury will meet in New York to select the shortlisted entries in both categories. The final winners will be decided by a separate jury that will meet in Paris immediately before Paris Photo begins. The initial jury will include representatives of both Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation, and the final jury will include neither.

Each award winner will be chosen from the juried shortlist, all of which will be exhibited at Paris Photo. The fall 2014 issue of The PhotoBook Review (published by Aperture Foundation) will feature all of the shortlisted books.

Following their display during Paris Photo, an exhibition of the thirty shortlisted books will travel to Aperture Gallery in New York and may be exhibited at other venues.

Prizes
The First PhotoBook Prize: A $10,000 prize will be awarded to the photographer(s)/artist(s) whose first photobook is judged to be best of the year.

The PhotoBook of the Year Prize: Will be awarded to the photographer(s)/artist(s), and publisher responsible, for the photobook judged to be the best of the year.

The shortlisted books, accompanied by the jury’s comments, will be featured in the fall 2014 edition of The PhotoBook Review (published by Aperture Foundation). This issue will be released at Paris Photo. Copies will be also be available at the Aperture Gallery, as well as distributed with Aperture magazine and through other distribution partners. The prize-related contents will be viewable on the Aperture website.

“Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation have joined forces to launch two new photobook awards in 2012. Entries will be accepted from July 15 through September 10, 2012. Thirty shortlisted entries in total will be exhibited, and the award winners will be announced, at Paris Photo, November 14-18, 2012.

Featuring Two Categories

  • First PhotoBook
    A $10,000 prize will be awarded to the photographer/artist whose first photobook is deemed by an independent jury to be best of the year.
  • PhotoBook of the Year
    PhotoBook of the Year will be awarded to the photographer/artist and publisher, whose book is deemed by an independent jury to be the best of the year.

Jury

  • Shortlist Selection
    The initial selection will be made by Phillip Block, Deputy Director of Programs and Director of Education at the International Center of Photography; Chris Boot, Executive Director of Aperture Foundation; Julien Frydman, Director of Paris Photo; Lesley A. Martin, Publisher at Aperture Foundation; and James Wellford, senior international photo editor at Newsweek magazine.
  • Final Selection
    A final jury in Paris, including Els Barrents, Director of the Huis Marseille; Roxana Marcoci, Curator of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Curator of the Paris Photo 2012 Platform; Edward Robinson, Los Angeles County Museum of Art Associate Curator of Photography; Thomas Seelig, Curator of the Fotomuseum Winterthur; and others to be announced, will select the winners for both prizes.”
