Call for Submissions: THE LOOK3 FESTIVAL SCHOLARSHIP for Emerging Photographers
Deadline Extended: Friday, May 13, 2016 at midnight EST

PhotoShelter, the leader in websites and business tools for photographers, is excited to present two grants to emerging photographers to attend LOOK3 in Charlottesville, VA June 13 – 19, 2016.

The grant includes:

To qualify, participants must be working photographers who have been shooting on their own professionally (i.e. being paid for their work) for eight years or less.

To apply, submit up to a 300 word essay that:

  • Describes your academic/photographic accomplishments
  • States your goals for your photography career
  • Explains why attending LOOK3 will help you achieve your goals

Please also include:

  • Your name, where you live, your age, and the year you began shooting on your own professionally.
  • A link to your online portfolio.

All submissions should be sent to marketing@photoshelter.com.

Note:  If you have already registered for the event and/or made travel plans, you are still eligible! We will take care of reimbursements if provided with receipts.”

“Education Week kicks off on June 11th and runs until the end of the Festival on June 15th:

  • Day 1 and 2: Choose 4 of 6 courses on a range of professional and creative topics.
  • Day 3: Choose either three 20-minute portfolio review sessions or one 1-hour editing session.
  • Registration includes an invitation to the Education Week Keynote and party.
  • LOOK3 FESTIVAL PASS IS INCLUDED IN THE EDUCATION WEEK TUITION. The Education Week Festival Pass grants access to all talks, projections, and exhibits from June 13-15: the perfect way to end this intense week of inspiration, collaboration, and creativity.
  • The Education Week Festival Package (June 11-15) is $795. Scholarships are available thanks to Canon U.S.A. and Leica Camera.
  • Cancellation Policy: A full refund, less a $100.00 processing fee, will be given for refund requests made BEFORE April 30, 2013. From May 1, 2013 on, no refunds will be given.”

The Hope for a Healthy World Photo Competition gives photographers the opportunity to win cash prizes and have their work recognized at the LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph in 2012, as well as on the website pdnonline.com.  This juried competition is sponsored by BD, a medical technology company dedicated to improving people’s health throughout the world. BD relies on imagery to tell stories about a wide range of diseases in which its people, products and initiatives play a significant role.

All winners’ work will become part of Hope for a Healthy World Photo Exhibition, a traveling Global Health exhibit sponsored by BD that will debut at LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph in Charlottesville, Virginia June 7-9, 2012.  Also, all winners’ work will be placed in the contest gallery hosted on PDNonline.com and represented in the PDN Photo Annual, June 2012.

LOOK3 will present another inspiring three days of exhibitions, presentations, interviews, workshops, and outdoor projections.  This year’s guest curators are Kathy Ryan of NYTimes Magazine and Scott Thode of VII magazine.  The theme is Home.

This year’s INsight Artists are: Nan Goldin, Massimo Vitali and Antonin Kratochvil. Each of these renowned photographers will have solo gallery exhibits and one night on-stage to share with us the stories behind their storied careers.

For the Masters Talks program Steve McCurry, Christopher Anderson, Ashley Gilbertson, and LaToya Ruby Frazier will present with more artists to be announced soon. The 2011 Workshops are being taught by Mary Ellen Mark, Christopher Anderson, Alex Webb, Rebecca Norris Webb, and Brian Storm.
