“The ICP / GOST First Photo Book Award aims to promote and support the work of previously unpublished photographers and artists through the production of a first book by the ICP / GOST imprint.

The winner will have their first book designed, edited, printed and published by the ICP / GOST imprint, including distribution, press and promotion with the opportunity to exhibit the work at a venue to be confirmed. The winner also receives a portion of personal copies of the book from the first print run.

The award is open to artists of any age, working in the medium of photography whose work has yet to be published in book form by a mainstream publisher. The Call for Entries is now open and will run until the 2 September 2019. The judges will be announced shortly and the shortlist and winner will be announced in the fall.

Submission Requirements
The submission must include:

  • A selection of 35-100 digital image files
    All images must be 1500 pixels on the long side and uploaded as JPG files.
  • Artist CV/Résumé
  • Statement about the work
  • Brief artist bio
  • Application fee.

“Join us for a special walkthrough of Stepping Through the Ashes, part of the Remembering 9/11 exhibition, with guest artist Eugene Richards.

Richards’ photography and writing has appeared in major magazines worldwide including LIFE, the New York Times Magazine, Esquire, the New Yorker, Mother Jones, National Geographic, and The Nation, but he is best known for his 15 books. His numerous honors include the a Guggenheim fellowship, three National Endowment for the Arts grants, the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Award, and the Robert F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Journalism Award.”

“Join us for a discussion on how the ground-breaking images that make up the Hiroshima: Ground Zero 1945 exhibition at ICP were discovered and how the moving footage shot in post-bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki was censored by the U.S. government. Panelists include Greg Mitchell, the author of Atomic Cover-Up: Two U.S. Soldiers, Hiroshima & Nagasaki, and The Greatest Movie Never Made (2011) and co-author (with Robert Jay Lifton) of Hiroshima in America: Fifty Years of Denial (1995); Assistant Curator of Collections Erin Barrett; and writer and freelance documentary film producer and director Adam Harrison Levy.”
