“This festival is for those who appreciate or are interested in artistic photography, modern or classical. Who wants to turn pages of various books with works of photo art, collected on one day at one place, or to buy a book, for yourself or for a gift. Who wants to chat directly with publishers of these books and photographers. Who wants to listen to thematic lectures or to join other events that will be held within the festival.

The central event of the festival is a fair of photo books from Ukrainian and foreign publishing houses, art galleries and book stores specializing in such literature, as well as directly from photographers who have published their art photo books.

Along with the fair, we will have an exhibition of private collections of photo books and photo magazines. The lecture hall will host lectures on photo books and photography and open presentations of photo book projects for all day. The festival will hold a review of photo book projects by experts as well. On the second floor of IZONE there will be a cafe.

The festival is conducted in partnership with IZONE Creative Community.

If you have an idea / project of not yet printed photo book, and would like to present it publicly – we will provide you with such opportunity! For free! You will have a large screen and interested audience that can ask questions or give a critique back. Details here.”

Calling all students! YPA has finalized our locations for this years’ mentoring program. We have a total of seventeen teams set up around the world.

The program takes place over the summer beginning June 1st, ending August 15th pairing up students with leading industry professionals. Teams will meet for eight two hour sessions, (days and times to be determined by teams at first meeting).

The results of the program will be featured in an exhibition in NYC and will be prominently displayed to a worldwide audience. You will gain experience and insights from your mentors, create new work for your portfolio, develop professional business skills, and with your team will create a local campaign to promote yourselves and your work.

All teams will worth on a common theme this year titled “Escape”. We invite you to explore what the word means to you.

What does participation in the program involve?

  • You will meet with your mentors for six to eight two-hour sessions over the course of ten weeks (see timetable below for program dates).
  • You and your team will set the meeting times based on your mutual schedules.
  • You will identify a subject based on the theme “Escape” which you will photograph outside of meeting times.
  • You will discuss and edit your work together with your team and deliver three final images and a short essay of no more than 300 words.
  • You will work with your team to document the entire process.
  • You will learn to write a creative brief; learn about the business of photography and together with your team, develop a localized promotional campaign as a part of your final deliverables.

Before you apply
Please ensure that:

  • You are aged 18-29, currently enrolled in a college photography course or a recent graduate.
  • You can commit to what’s involved in this program (see above).
  • You can be reasonably flexible about your availability for team meetings (six to eight over ten weeks – see timetable below for program dates). We cannot offer any advance assurance about scheduling of team meetings: each team schedules times and dates to suit their individual needs.
  • You are able to organize your own transportation to the team meetings. (Unfortunately we do not have any travel grants for this program.)
  • You will have use of a working, digital SLR camera, at least 8 megapixels, and compatible lens(es). If you are borrowing a camera, please take the time to familiarize yourself with it fully before you start the program.
  • You understand that submitting an application is no guarantee of acceptance.

How to apply

  • Join as a YPA21 member (which costs just $21 – more details here).
  • Proceed to the mentoring application.
  • Five to eight of your best images. Does not have to represent theme; they should simply be representative of your work.
  • A letter of recommendation from a professor, mentor, advisor, or employer; this should make reference to your photographic abilities.
  • A description of your photographic experience: classes taken, competitions entered, etc.
  • A short statement of how you might approach the theme. You will not be restricted to the ideas you propose; we just want to get an idea of your creativity/approach.”
