“LensCulture and legendary photography agency Magnum Photos are seeking the best in global contemporary photography for the second annual Magnum Photography Awards.

Photographers working at all levels are eligible to participate—professionals, emerging talents, students and passionate amateurs. Likewise, photographers of all ages and all cultures are encouraged to take part in this worldwide celebration of talented image-makers.

Our distinguished international jury will select 12 Winners, 8 Jurors’ Picks and 20 Finalists. Awards will be given in six categories:

“The theme is Still Life. All subject matter and photographic processes are welcome.

Juror
Rebecca Senf is the Norton Family Curator of Photography, a joint appointment at the Center for Creative Photography and the Phoenix Art Museum. Senf earned a Ph.D. in Art History at Boston University. In Boston she worked on the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s major exhibition Ansel Adams from The Lane Collection, for which she also co-authored the exhibition catalogue. In October of 2012 her book Reconstructing the View: The Grand Canyon Photographs of Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe was released by University of California Press. Upcoming projects include exhibitions on the photographic book and platinum photography.

Eligibility
The exhibition is open to all photographers world wide, both amateur and professional. The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions.

Awards
With selection for this exhibition, the artists are invited to join C4FAP on the reception weekend for review with the juror Rebecca Senf and Director Hamidah Glasgow. There will also be a group portfolio share and an artists’ lunch at C4FAP. An international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and other advocates of fine art photography will view the chosen artist’s work throughout the exhibition. Each participant is included in the Center’s Main Gallery exhibition in Fort Collins, Colorado and Online Gallery exhibition. In order to be included in the online gallery or to receive an award, you must provide a professionally printed and framed/mounted image for gallery exhibition. All chosen artists will be included in the exhibition catalog.

Juror: Alexa Becker holds an MA in art history and is the acquisitions editor for photography and art books for Kehrer Verlag, in Heidelberg, Germany.

Eligibility
The exhibition is open to photographers world wide, both amateur and professional. The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles, and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions.

Online Exhibition and Awards
With selection for this exhibition, featured artist’s work will be seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants, and other advocates of fine art photography. Participants will be included in the Center’s Online Gallery exhibition as well as have their accepted portfolio published in the Portfolio ShowCase Volume 7 Book. Select artists also will receive a blog feature at the Center’s blog, PERSPECTIVES.

  • ONE SOLO EXHIBITION AWARD One artist will be chosen for a solo exhibition at the Center for Fine Art Photography.
  • PORTFOLIO SHOWCASE GROUP SHOW The Center will exhibit prints from the selected artists in conjuction with the book launch to promote the artists.
  • JUROR’S SELECTION The juror will select one portfolio to be the first presented in the book and will select an image from the portfolio to be the book cover.

Entry Fee
There is no limit to the number of portfolios that may be submitted. Applicants signing up for membership at the time they submit will receive the automatic discounted entry fee.

Theme
Food, in its most basic purpose provides the fundamentals of existence. The act of eating, and what one eats, is based upon many societal implications including location, resources, and access. For centuries, food has helped distinguish cultures and, on occasion, been the source of rituals. Photography has the ability to transform our vision of food graphically, politically, and culturally.

Exhibition
With selection for this exhibition, featured artist’s work will be seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants, and other advocates of fine art photography. Each participant will be included in the Center’s Main Gallery exhibition and Online Gallery exhibition. Exhibiting artists are encouraged to attend the Center’s opening reception to participate in portfolio reviews with David Bram.

“All black and white photography is welcome. This includes alternative, traditional, digital, and toned black and white images. All subjects are eligible.

JUROR
Catherine Edelman is the founder of Catherine Edelman Gallery which opened in 1987 and quickly establishing itself as one of the leading galleries in the Midwest devoted exclusively to the art of photography. From its inception, the goal of the gallery was to exhibit prominent contemporary photographers alongside new & young talent, showcasing a broad range of subject matter and photographic techniques.

“As the dynamic conversation of photography continues to evolve, we are engaged in moving this dialogue forward. Center Forward 2011 will include a main gallery group exhibition and a solo exhibition award. The theme is open and all subjects are eligible. Please join us in the conversation.

JUROR
Hamidah Glasgow is the Executive Director at The Center for Fine Art Photography. Ms. Glasgow has had diverse careers as a TV producer, photographer and nonprofit arts executive. She has been a reviewer for PhotoLA, FotoFest, Critical Mass and Photolucida 2011.

EXHIBITION AND AWARDS
