“The Print Center’s Annual International Competition is one of the most prestigious and oldest competitions in the United States. Alternating yearly between printmaking and photography, it provides a unique opportunity for local, national and international artists to compete in a forum which emphasizes individual talent and expressiveness. The Print Center is particularly interested in highlighting artists who utilize photography in intriguing ways, both in terms of content of the imagery and process in which it was made. Artists whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional photographic practice are encouraged to enter.
Awards + Prizes
A purchase award for the Philadelphia Museum of Art, up to $3,000 in purchase, cash and material prizes and a two-year contract from The Print Center Gallery Store. Selected artists included in the online exhibition are eligible to receive all awards. Three artists will be chosen to mount solo exhibitions at The Print Center, which will take place January – March, 2013; those artists will receive a $200 honorarium. (Pending funding, especially for international artists, this amount may increase.)
An online exhibition on The Print Center’s website will highlight the selected artists and will include all images submitted by those artists, biographical information and links to artists’ own websites. A group of ten finalists will have more extensive information on the site, with additional images and supporting commentary from the juror and/or The Print Center’s Curator.
The competition is open to all artists. All forms of art are acceptable as long as photography is a critical component of the work. Work submitted must have been completed in the last three years. Up to five images may be submitted and only one entry per person.
Submissions are accepted online only at Slide Room.
